Advent Festival at St. Stephen’s Basilica
November 14, 2025 – January 1, 2026 St. Stephen’s Square (Szent István tér), District V.
For the fourth time, this has been voted the most beautiful Christmas fair in Europe!
At the Basilica market, you’ll find stalls from nearly one hundred Hungarian artisans, as well as many food stands, a beautiful Christmas tree, light shows and projections, plus numerous other activities including a series of concerts.
You can find more information in English on the initiative’s official website.
Vörösmarty Classic Xmas
November 14 – December 31, 2025 Vörösmarty Square (Vörösmarty tér), District V.
Every year, millions of people visit the Christmas market in Vörösmarty Square. Actually, the market begins as soon as you exit the metro at Deák Square. If you turn right after the escalator and walk along Deák Street, you’ll immediately encounter the stalls. (If you exit from the other side instead, after a short walk you’ll reach St. Stephen’s Basilica).
In the square named after the poet Mihály Vörösmarty, dozens and dozens of artisans will welcome you with countless original handmade products, as well as many truly irresistible food stands. You’ll find many typical Hungarian dishes, and also the most renowned “street” sweet, the kürtős kalács.
If you’re in Budapest, don’t miss the audio guide about the New York Café, the most beautiful café in the world!
You’ll discover its history and many interesting anecdotes that will help you experience that place differently.
Advent in Old Buda
November 28 – December 23, 2025 Fő Square – which means ‘main square’, (Fő tér), Óbuda, District III.
Old Buda is one of Budapest’s most historic and interesting neighborhoods, with many attractions not to be missed, including the Roman amphitheater, Aquincum, and also the Vasarely Museum.
During the Christmas period, a very nice traditional market is added to these, which I also recommend if you want to avoid places that are too large and crowded. Here, in Fő Square, the Christmas market is compact, intimate, and despite this, always full of really beautiful artisan stalls, as well as food stands offering typical products such as lángos, sausages and the inevitable sweet made in the chimney.

Christmas Craft Market of the Independent Contemporary Applied Arts Salon (FIKSZ VIII. Adventi Iparművészeti Vásár)
December 6-7 and December 13-14, 2025 Petőfi Literary Museum – Petőfi Irodalmi Múzeum (PIM) Károlyi u. 16, District V.
The market of the Independent Contemporary Applied Arts Salon (FIKSZ), with over one hundred artists present, is, in all likelihood, the highest-level initiative of its kind.
The exhibitors, all well-known artists selected by a jury, work with the most diverse materials, including ceramics, porcelain, glass, leather, wood, paper or fabrics, creating original and artistic works that last over time.
The event, which takes place over two weekends, is sponsored by the Hungarian Academy of Arts, and will be held in the spaces of the Petőfi Literary Museum.
